The Philadelphia Chapter of PRSA recognized their best and brightest last night (12/2/14) at the annual Pepperpot Awards. The #Pepperpots represent the high water mark for PR in the greater Delaware Valley (AKA Southeast PA, Delaware, South Jersey).
Attending this event reminded me of the importance of belonging to, and serving, my professional society. I was born and raised at Rowan University (Glassboro College back then) and was taught through my membership in the AJF chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America the importance of building and nurturing relationships with peer PR professionals.
I can hear my professors (Tony Fulginitti and Don Bagen) demanding excellence, passion and commitment in our public relations profession. The professional advisors who tirelessly and selflessly served The Rowan PRSSA chapter (Anne Klein and Frank X. Long, among others) also emphasized the lessons of accountability, service and continuing education.
During this holiday season, and in the wake of Thanksgiving and “Giving Tuesday,” I hope everyone reading this will be inspired to volunteer, join, donate or serve their profession or their community.
Congratulations to Nancy Glass, first-ever recipient of the Philadelphia PRSA Integrity Award! Congratulations to all those who competed and especially those who won Pepperpots last night. You have distinguished yourselves, your organizations and most of all Philadelphia PRSA!
